In 1960, Jose Escandell, aboard the Virgen del Carmen, a boat launched from a small shipyard in Pollença, with capacity of 47 passengers and a length of 14 metres, inaugurated the first route through the Port of Palma.

One of the best ways to get a close look at this spectacular port is from the bay itself, free of obstacles on land and common restrictions along its banks.

The Mollet, the shipyards the nautical Club, the warves of Ponent and Pelaires, Porto Pi and the dike of the West. They parade slowly to slow pace of the peculiar swallow.

In 1995 the emblematic craft Virgen del Carmen has been replaced by the current swallow Mar y Sol II, a ship with capacity for 87 passengers.
